Daphne Schiller is the featured poet in SOUTH 41. Gillian Knibbs provides a profile of Daphne and a selection of her poems. In Gillian's words "It is the ordinariness of life peppered by the faintly surreal that marks out Daphne's work."

A taster poem appears below.

ONE OF THOSE DAYS

It’s just one of those days
when the cat plays loud jazz on the piano
attracting mice in dark glasses
smoking Gauloises,
when a phoenix nests in the fire,
when the neighbours’ escape tunnel
ends in our bath,
when a gutted rainbow
gleams in the kitchen,
when all the chrysanthemums smile like lions,
when the milkman delivers bottles of blood,
when I sit down, squid in hand
and squirt this poem.
